The Numidian and Roman city of Musti/Mustis (Hr Mest, Tunisia) is located in the highly urbanised region of Proconsular Africa, along the main route leading from Carthage to Theveste, approximately 12 km from Thugga (Dougga).
This lecture will present an overview of the results of epigraphical research conducted by Karol Kłodziński and Mohammed Abid in Musti between 2019 and 2023, with particular emphasis on the discovery of new fragments of the Capitolium dedication found in the area of the Byzantine citadel.
The project AFRIPAL, directed by Jamel Hajji (Institut National du Patrimoine) and Tomasz Waliszewski (University of Warsaw), is carried out by the team from the Institut National du Patrimoine and the University of Warsaw as part of the project “(Reading) African Palimpsest – The dynamics of urban and rural communities of Numidian and Roman Mustis (AFRIPAL)”, supported by a grant from the National Science Centre (NCN).
